The annual output of NbTi wire can reach 600-800 tons, and the annual output of Nb₃Sn wire can reach 30-50 tons. The company's ITER-grade Nb₃Sn wire products and their CICC conductors have passed comprehensive performance tests on electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal properties by institute of plasma physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and international authoritative institutions of the European Union. Pan Xifeng, a native of Huangshi, Hubei Province, is the founder and chairman of Hefei Kuafu Superconducting Technology Co., LTD. He graduated from Southwest Jiaotong University with a Ph.D. in Materials Science and engineering in 2011. From 2009 to 2011, he studied at Kyushu University and National Institute on Material science (NIMS) in Japan.
Currently, he is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the College of Physics and Energy, Fujian Normal University, director of the Fujian Provincial Advanced High-Temperature Superconducting Materials Engineering Research Center, and a distinguished professor under the "Minjiang Scholars" program of Fujian Province. In 2019, he was selected as a young outstanding talent under the National "Ten Thousand Talents Plan" of the CPC Central Committee. To date, as the principal investigator, he has led more than 20 national key research and development plan projects, national magnetic confinement fusion energy development special projects, national natural science foundation projects (for young scholars and general projects), China Postdoctoral Science Foundation projects (for general projects and special funding), as well as the "Special Support Program for Outstanding Young Professionals" of Shaanxi Province and industrialization projects in Shaanxi Province. He has received more than 40 million yuan in research funding; Dr. Pan has also received awards such as the "Top 10 Engineers in Xi'an", the "Outstanding Young Science and Technology Innovators of Shaanxi Province", and the "High-end Talent Introduction Program of Fujian Province (Category B)".
Dr. Pan Xifeng's main academic research directions are the engineering preparation of advanced superconducting materials for strong magnetic field field applications and the study of their integrated electrical, magnetic, mechanical, and thermal characteristics. He is also skilled at studying the laws governing the microstructural regulation and artificial flux pinning characteristics of practical superconducting materials (MgB2, Nb3Sn, NbTi, Nb3Al, and Bi-2212). He has published more than 120 English and Chinese academic papers on superconductivity in domestic and international academic journals, and has obtained more than 30 national patents for inventions as the principal inventor. Currently, Dr. Pan Xifeng is a reviewer for the key research and development plan project of the State Science and Technology Department, the National Natural Science Foundation of China project, and is also a reviewer for international well-known journals such as Superconductor Science and Technology, Superconductivity, and IEEE transactions on Applied Superconductivity.
Dr. Pan Xifeng's main academic contributions are as follows: (1) He was the first one to lead a team in China to develop the practical engineering of niobium-aluminum-niobium (Nb₃Al) superconducting material, after more than a decade of development and exploration, his team achieved the first domestic 100-meter-long high-performance Nb₃Al superconducting wire, with wire performance reaching the international advanced level; it was the second team in the world to master the engineering technology of this material. (2) He was among the first in the country to lead a team in successfully producing a single kilometer-long superconducting boron-doped magnesium diboride wire, and he also achieved the first twisting of the wire, bringing the wire's performance to an internationally synchronized level.
